- : Gee, Andy, let's try exactly the same logic: "You may have had lots of
- : problems with Zoom modems, but that does not make you a modem expert, nor
- : does it qualify you to make such a broad statement like, 'Take it back as
- : soon as you can.'" Chill out!!!!
-
- Someone asked for opinions on a modem, and I made mine heard. I know
- that the response recieved was rude, and I apologized for it.
-
- : Now, before you flame me, I, like most (all?) in this thread am not a modem
- : expert either, but my Zoom V.34i works fine and connects at full 28,8 most
- : of the time, once I got the latest ROM upgrade. BTW, I connect to at
- : least three different services on a daily basis, so my Zoom gets used a
- : lot and has been very solid. The modems have also been rated as the best
- : low cost V.34 by PC Mag after they ran rather extensive tests. Zoom tech
- : support via the net has been prompt and courteous, with the new ROMs being
- : shipped free immediately upon request.
-
- I'm glad you have had such positive experience with them. According to
- the June '95 issue of Mac User, out of 16 modems, the Zoom v.34X was
- ranked third from the bottom. Connection reliability was very poor,
- file compression was very near the bottom. It's overall transfer rate
- was near the middle.
-
- I, on the other have been ignored by ZoomRep@aol.com, been forced to
- dial tech support for 30 minites without getting through, I've been
- lied to by the tech support reps over the phone when I *did* get
- through, and 1.309 took about three weeks to arrive.
-
- : BTW, Andy, you mention "the school you go to." For the record, I'm not
- : going to school these days. I'm a degreed E.E. with 18 years experience
- : in the computer and data communications industry. So, let me echo Daniel's
- : statement and do a bit of my own carving. :)
-
- Although I have not yet graduated, I am pursuing a bachelors, or
- possibly a masters degree in computer engineering.
-
- : "The current ROM is fine!!"
-
- For you, yes.
